Recap: Intl exchange activity of Shanghai leadership (Jan 26-Feb 1)
Jan 31 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Chen said Shanghai is ready to work with the United Kingdom to strengthen cooperation in areas including financial services, biomedicine, and green development. He also called for deeper exchanges in culture, creativity, and education, closer people-to-people ties, and greater contributions to China-UK cooperation.
Starmer described Shanghai as an important city for UK-China cooperation and exchanges, noting that many British companies have chosen Shanghai as a base for expansion and have found success there.
He said he hopes both sides will further enhance understanding and mutual trust through closer exchanges and deepen practical cooperation in fields including finance, technology, culture, creativity, and climate change, to benefit people in both countries.
