May 5 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with a delegation of United States senators led by Senator Steve Daines.
Gong noted that since 1980, Shanghai has established friendship city ties with San Francisco, Chicago, and Houston, signed a memorandum of understanding on friendly exchanges with New York, and engaged in a wide range of exchanges and cooperation with other US regions.
He emphasized Shanghai's commitment to strengthening trade and investment ties with the US, encouraging US companies to seize opportunities offered at the China International Import Expo and expand their presence in the city.
Gong also expressed hope for deeper exchanges in culture, education, and sports, as well as increased engagement and cooperation among young people.

May 8 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with a delegation attending the 2026 China-South Korea Business Leaders Economic Conference, led by Sohn Kyung-shik, chairman of the Korea Enterprises Federation.
Gong expressed hope that South Korean companies would continue expanding their investment and presence in Shanghai, bringing more high-quality resources, major projects, and business functions to the city. He also welcomed South Korean companies to participate in the China International Import Expo, encouraging them to introduce new products, technologies, and services to Shanghai and the Chinese market.
Sohn said that Shanghai's development is important for South Korean companies operating and investing in China.
He added that South Korean businesses will continue to expand investment in Shanghai and look forward to deepening cooperation with local enterprises in areas such as technology research and development to achieve mutual benefit and cement friendship between the two countries.
