Shanghai Metro has launched a pilot umbrella service at 22 stations across multiple lines to help passengers caught in sudden downpours.

A total of 780 umbrellas have been deployed at the first batch of pilot stations. They are available near station service centers outside the paid area.

On rainy days, station staff will put the umbrellas at designated locations and collect them once the weather clears. Each umbrella is priced at 10 yuan and can be purchased by scanning a QR code at an unmanned self-service kiosk.

The metro operator will collect passenger feedback, optimize umbrella placement, and consider gradually expanding the service based on the pilot results.

The first batch of pilot stations includes Lianhua Road on Line 1, Guanglan Road on Line 2, Shuichan Road on Line 3, Luban Road on Line 4, Xiaotang on Line 5, Gangcheng Road on Line 6, Shangda Road on Line 7, Quyang Road on Line 8, Madang Road on Line 9, Jiading Xincheng on Line 11, Hongxin Road on Line 12, Lianxi Road on Lines 13 and 18, Zhangjiang Road on Line 13, Caoyang Road and Yuyuan Garden on Line 14, Shuangbai Road on Line 15, Wild Animal Park on Line 16, Dianshanhu Avenue on Line 17, South Changjiang Road on Line 18, Sanlu Highway on the Pujiang Line, and Jinghong Road and South Sanlin on the Airport Link Line.
