Tomorrowland unveils its first full indoor experience in Shanghai
Tomorrowland, one of the world's most renowned music festival brands, unveiled its first fully realized indoor experience, The Magic of Tomorrowland, in Shanghai on Nov 22–23. The two-day showcase marked the festival's debut of a complete indoor edition in China.
Blending global electronic pop with Shanghai's music culture, the lineup united leading international artists and prominent Chinese musicians. The range of genres and performance styles created a polished electronic music experience crafted specifically for an indoor stage.
Two themed stages anchored the event, each with a distinct visual identity and musical direction. Precision lighting and sound design transformed the venue into a richly atmospheric world.
The centerpiece was the "Paperworld" stage, a 45-meter runway-like platform framed by 1,032 moving lights and a newly built 374-square-meter LED wall. Inspired by paper as an artistic motif, the stage unfolded like a traditional Chinese scroll. Every character and pattern was hand-drawn, giving visuals a sense of crafted warmth. Illuminated in bright light, the stage fused the ancient elegance of Chinese paper, one of the Four Great Inventions, with modern technology.
Another defining element came from 15 giant LED butterflies crafted in China. Surrounded by nearly 700 square meters of LED screens and complemented by 2,000 meters of custom light strips, the butterflies appeared to take flight as lighting shifted with each musical transition.
To extend the experience beyond the venue, organizers partnered with a wide range of merchants in Huangpu district to launch a special citywide campaign. Ticket holders can enjoy exclusive dining, shopping, and cafe perks across major commercial areas.
