Shanghai has opened a new 500-square-meter outdoor ice rink beside Shanghai Museum East in Pudong New Area, offering residents a fresh winter destination that combines sports, leisure, and artistic experiences. The rink, developed by Time Edition shopping center in partnership with the emerging ice-entertainment brand Joy Skating Dream, opened to the public on Nov 29.

On the previous day, Nov 28, the venue hosted a preview performance titled Shine on Ice. The show featured 13 ice-dance artists from different countries and artistic backgrounds. Under the lights, pairs performed smooth and elegant routines, accompanied by live violin music that carried across the rink. Lifts, spins, and sweeping blades sent up bright sprays of ice and drew repeated applause from the audience.

Shanghai's new rink reflects a winter tradition seen in major cities around the world, where museum-side rinks have become seasonal landmarks. From the Natural History Museum Ice Rink in London to New York's Wollman Rink and Moscow's GUM Skating Rink, these venues blend architecture, culture, and urban life into well-loved winter experiences.

The Time Edition rink will operate through Feb 28 and welcomes visitors aged 3 to 55. It is open daily from 10 am to 9 pm. Tickets can be purchased through the official WeChat mini program of Joy Skating Dream.
