Winter festivities light up SMP mall
A 10-meter-tall fountain lit up Sinar Mas Plaza on the North Bund on Dec 5, marking the start of a winter program built for making wishes. The glowing, multi-layer installation is the centerpiece of a series of activities spread across the SMP mall and nearby landmarks.
The mall has connected several sites, including Playground X with its indoor and outdoor basketball courts and The Stage observation deck at the top of the mall. Together, they create an immersive route that guides visitors from the riverside plaza up to the city skyline.
The program includes five main activities.
- Make a wish: Visitors can toss a coin into the giant fountain and make a wish for the coming year.
- Ride the holiday train: A retro-style mini train runs daily from noon to 9 pm until Dec 31, offering a short sightseeing ride around the mall.
- Send a message from above: Until Dec 23, visitors can go to The Stage observation deck to ring a bell and write a New Year's wish on a card to hang in a designated area.
- Explore the winter market: From Dec 19 to 28, a winter-themed market will offer food stalls, handmade goods, and games. A charity session is scheduled for Dec 20.
- Join a sporty challenge: Playground X offers a wish-ball toss where visitors can get moving and join a light physical activity.
In addition, from now until Dec 28 and again on Dec 31, the mall will present hourly artificial snowfall from 5 pm to 9 pm every Friday to Sunday. The falling snow, set against city lights and the surrounding buildings, is designed to create a festive atmosphere for evening visitors.
