The Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce hosted a very special event on Jan 26 — gathering nearly 100 multinational companies, trade associations and foreign consulates along with expats and their families to celebrate the Chinese New Year together.

Zhu Min, director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, talked about the city's 2025 New Year Shopping Season, which will span 10 key shopping areas and feature over 110 events.

He also presented four "menu" packages for expats in Shanghai, which include a variety of things to do like shopping, cultural and culinary experiences.

The Business District Consumption Menu includes New Year discounts and promotions across major commercial areas like Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road and Yuyuan Garden.

The Shanghai-style New Year's Customs Menu offers events such as the Intangible Cultural Heritage Lantern Festival and a LEGO New Year Temple Fair.

The Chinese New Year's Flavor Menu highlights traditional celebrations like the bell-ringing ceremony in Zhujing ancient town and the market and temple fair held in Panlong Tiandi.

The Local Gourmet Menu features dishes like spicy fish head in Wang Xiang Yuan restaurant, the Four Season Set at Lyu Bo Lang — a Michelin Guide restaurant — and crab roe soup dumplings at Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant.
