As part of the ongoing Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season, the city is coming alive with six newly launched, city-customized events. From cartoon-themed pop-ups and romantic Qixi celebrations to award-winning musicals, fashion exhibitions, cosmic wonders, and Tang Dynasty-inspired cultural experiences, there is something to capture every interest. Whether you're drawn to nostalgia, art, science, or immersive storytelling, these events offer fresh discoveries both day and night.

 

LCM shopping center – The Powerpuff Girls Powerland

The Powerpuff Girls have landed in Shanghai for their first-ever China exhibition. The beloved animated heroes from the 1998 US series take over more than 2,000 square meters of themed displays, transforming the shopping center into Townsville, the iconic setting of their adventures. Visitors can immerse themselves in childhood nostalgia while exploring a pop-up store with over 100 merchandise items, including tote bags to plush toys, stationery, and exclusive city-themed activities.

 

Zhenru Unipark Max shopping center – Qixi Festival Series

This Chinese Valentine's Day, Zhenru Unipark Max turns romance up to the max with themed activities. Pose at love-inspired photo spots, try your luck in the Cupid's Arrow game, and enjoy a breezy open-air concert. Visitors can cool off with an unconventional "refreshing date" experience, meet cosplay store managers, join a family dumpling-making challenge, and shop for special discounts on fashion, electronics, and jewelry.

 

Juce Culture and Media – The Choir of Man (West End Musical)

London's West End hit The Choir of Man makes its China debut in Shanghai. Set in a traditional English pub, the musical blends nine male performers' a cappella harmonies with tap dancing, piano, cello, and more, blurring the line between audience and stage. Ticket holders can enjoy complimentary drinks and may even join the cast for impromptu performances. The setlist features international hits from Queen, Adele, and Guns N' Roses, as well as film favorites like I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles), delivering the energy of a world-class stage party with no time difference.

 

Vivienne Westwood – Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery Exhibition

The Asia debut of Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery explores the iconic designer's creative journey through her relationship with jewelry. Known for challenging norms and merging cultural influences, Westwood's designs blend form, symbolism, and ornamentation into a powerful style language. The exhibition traces her life's impact on the world of fashion over the past five decades, highlighting how jewelry craftsmanship has been integral to her vision from the start.

 

Shanghai Astronomy Museum – Stars Fallen, Greatness Risen meteorite culture exhibition

When: Now until Nov 18

This exhibition invites visitors to explore meteorites from multiple perspectives: science, mythology, and history, while re-imagining classic stories and uncovering the beauty of celestial stones. Divided into three sections of Celestial Chronicles, When Stars Become Tools, and Echoes of the Falling Stars, the show features rare treasures like the world's first meteorite bian qing, a traditional Chinese percussion instrument made of stone or jade, suspended in a wooden frame and played with small mallets during court music and ceremonial rituals. Other highlights include a meteorite iron staff reminiscent of the Monkey King's legendary weapon. It's a poetic conversation between humanity and the cosmos.

 

Kerry Parkside – Poetic Journey at Kerry Exhibition

Inspired by Chang An, a Chinese animated film that celebrates the Tang Dynasty (618-907), this summer series transforms Kerry Parkside into a Tang Dynasty-themed cultural space. Visitors can wander through re-imagined scenes from poet Li Bai's works, such as Leaving the White Emperor Town at Dawn and the 108 Fang (or blocks) of Chang'an city, now Xi'an in Shaanxi province, with interactive installations bringing ancient poetry to life. The program also includes poetry duels with a Li Bai actor, Tang-style dance and music performances, themed banquets, and creative workshops such as calligraphy, painting, and traditional games, blending shopping and culture into one immersive experience.
