The Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season is turning up the heat with hundreds of experiences spanning shopping hubs, waterfront landmarks, parks, and cultural venues. After a dazzling first wave, the latest lineup brings city-tailored events from buzzing night markets and sizzling food festivals to live music and wine tastings, perfect for soaking up the magic of Shanghai's summer nights.

 

New Bund Red Lane

When: 4:30 pm to 10 pm (closes 9:30 pm on Sundays), Aug 16 to 17 & Aug 23 to 24

Where: No 12 Qianjiatan Road, Pudong New Area

New Bund Red Lane brings tropical Southeast Asian vibes to Shanghai this August with its Summer in Red Lane night market. Over two consecutive weekends, more than 40 food stalls will serve up global flavors, including 15 regional specialties, allowing visitors to "taste the world" without leaving the city. Shoppers who make a purchase can also claim a three-hour free parking voucher with proof of payment.

 

The Bingo Festival

When: Now until Aug 31

Where: Fucheng Road pedestrian street, Pudong New Area

The Bingo Festival, hosted by Shanghai Super Brand Mall, transforms the riverside into a vibrant night market every Friday through Sunday. The main market on Fucheng Road features more than 60 global food stalls, from Shanghai xiaolongbao and Guizhou sour soup rice noodles to durian coffee and French molten croissants. Visitors can also meet festival mascots FUNFUN the elephant and his sister THAIMAIMAI, and take home themed merchandise. Two indoor sub-markets inside the mall add to the variety: one showcasing high-quality export goods and another dedicated to anime-inspired products, desserts, and crafts.

Xintiandi – Summer Performance Season

Xintiandi's historic Shikumen streets and terraces transform into open-air stages this summer, hosting nearly 20 performances by 10 bands. From smooth jazz and elegant quartets to lively samba, adding a lyrical beat to Shanghai summer evenings.

 

Xintiandi – German Wine Festival

When: Aug 22 to 24

Where: Buildings 6-7, Alley 123 Xingye Road, Huangpu district

The "Summer of Riesling" German Wine Festival, organized by the German Wine Institute, returns for its 11th year, offering more than 80 German wines, immersive tastings, and special pairing dinners at select restaurants. From Aug 15 to 31, over 10 restaurants across Xintiandi will run limited-time promotions, with gifts such as Riesling bottle-shaped plush toys for customers who order select wines.

 

Xintiandi – Yunnan Scenery Market

When: Sept 19 to 21

Yunnan Scenery Market celebrates the flavors and culture of Yunnan with more than 60 food stalls serving regional specialties. Visitors can also explore traditional crafts and intangible cultural heritage workshops, offering a deeper look into the province known in Chinese as "the south of the colorful clouds", a poetic name that has long captured travelers' imaginations.

 

New World City – Ultraman 60th Anniversary Exhibition

When: 11 am to 3 pm, 3:30 pm to 9 pm; Now until Sept 21

Where: No 2-68 West Nanjing Road, Huangpu district

The Journey of Chasing the Light: Looking Ahead to Ultraman's 60th Anniversary Exhibition covers nearly 3,000 square meters, making it the largest of its kind in the Chinese mainland. Visitors can see a towering four-meter-tall bust of Ultraman Tiga, step into a 15-minute immersive VR battle experience, and explore more than 100 rare props from Japan's Tsuburaya Productions. A special section honoring designer Hiroshi Maruyama showcases original artwork and monster illustrations, on display in the Chinese mainland for the first time. Tickets are available via Douyin, Maoyan, Damai, Bilibili, and Piaoxingqiu.
