2024 WAICYOP Award - Calling Youth for Exceptional Papers on AI

The 7th World Artificial Intelligence Conference, scheduled for July in Shanghai, is now inviting exceptional papers on artificial intelligence from young scholars. The first authors of the papers must be below age 40 at the time of publishing.

Initiated in 2020, the annual award, titled the World Artificial Intelligence Conference Youth Outstanding Paper Award, aims to recognize a maximum of 10 exceptional papers as winners and an additional 10 papers as nominated submissions.

Eligible papers must be publicly published in academic journals or conferences after January 1, 2021.

Individuals interested in submitting their papers can do so through the website www.waicyop.cn before April 26, 2024.

Recommendation for the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference Youth Outstanding Paper Award

To whom it may concern:

The World Artificial Intelligence Conference, an internationally recognized event in the field of artificial intelligence approved by the State Council of China, has successfully convened six consecutive times, exerting a significant impact in the realm of AI. The seventh conference is scheduled to be held in Shanghai in July.

The World Artificial Intelligence Conference Youth Outstanding Paper Award (hereinafter referred to as the WAICYOP) selection initiative has been conducted successfully for four iterations, garnering high praise from young scientists. It serves as a platform for emerging talents in the AI domain to showcase their capabilities. This year, we are pleased to continue the WAICYOP selection process.

Sponsored by the WAIC organizing committee, the award aims to incentivize innovative research, foster the development of young talents, and advance scientific and technological progress in the field of AI.

Under the guidance of the China Association for Science and Technology, and with support from the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the Information and Electronic Engineering Academic Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Microsoft Research Asia, the 2024 WAICYOP evaluation is hosted by the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, the Shanghai Science and Technology Development Foundation, and the Global AI Academic Alliance.

The jury committee will consist of renowned experts in the field of AI.

We will make the selection of outstanding papers from youth across universities, research institutions, and enterprises worldwide, with awards to be presented at the WAIC 2024.

Details regarding the recommendation process for the 2024 WAICYOP are outlined as follows.

I. Award Categories

1. The WAIC Youth Outstanding Paper Award and WAIC Youth Outstanding Paper Nomination Award.

2. The total number of papers awarded for each of the two awards shall not exceed 10.

II. Eligibility Criteria

1. Papers must be publicly published in academic journals or conferences after January 1, 2021.

2. Papers should have made significant contributions to the basic theory or applied research of intelligent science and technology or related fields or demonstrated notable achievements in key technologies or innovative applications.

3. The age of the first author at the time of paper publication shall not exceed 40.

III. Paper Fields

Basic theory of AI, mathematical foundations of AI, machine learning, computer vision and pattern recognition, natural language processing, knowledge processing and mining, intelligent chips and systems, data analysis and big data systems, AI for science, generative AI, cognitive psychology and neuroscience, large models, intelligent robots, human-computer interaction and metaverse, intelligent perception and distributed intelligence, AI applications, etc.

IV. Recommendation Channels

1. Papers may be recommended by relevant academic organizations, universities, research institutions, and enterprises.

2. Senior experts holding the title of professor or equivalent in relevant AI fields are eligible to recommend papers.

3. Authors who meet the criteria are encouraged to self-recommend by directly submitting their papers.

V. Organization and Method for Selection

1. Form an expert review committee comprising renowned experts in the field of AI who will serve as judges. The committee consists of an executive committee overseeing the preliminary review and a review office responsible for daily operations.

2. The selection process encompasses three stages: preliminary review, secondary review, and final review. The expert review committee will choose a maximum of 10 outstanding papers for the Outstanding Paper Award and up to 10 for the Nomination Award.

VI. Materials for Submission

1. A printed copy of the published paper.

2. A PDF version of the published paper.

3. A printed copy of the WAICYOP Recommendation Form (Attachment 1) (For recommendations from organizations, forms must be signed by the organizational leader with an official seal; for recommendations from experts, forms must be signed by the experts). A PDF version of the recommendation form with signatures and seals.

4. Other relevant supporting materials.

IX. Submission of Materials

Organizations and experts recommending papers should complete the WAICYOP Recommendation Form (Attachment 1) and Registration Form for the First Author of Participating Papers (Attachment 2).
