Shanghai has announced a municipal government initiative aimed at training and certifying 80,000 first aid providers for medical emergencies this year.

This project is led by the Shanghai Red Cross and backed by various governmental bodies, according to the announcement.

As part of the initiative, the Shanghai Red Cross is set to provide specialized training to 622 first aid trainers this week that will form a dedicated team to deliver standardized instructions to interested residents.

According to the plan, training will start with certifying 10,000 first-aid providers in March. By the end of October, the target of training 80,000 individuals is expected to be achieved.

The comprehensive training will cover a range of crucial topics, including Red Cross principles, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), airway obstruction treatment, and trauma care.

The course comprises eight classes in total – four online theoretical courses and four offline practical training courses. Residents can register through the "Shanghai First Aid" WeChat mini-program and will receive an electronic certificate valid for three years upon successful completion.
