Shanghai plans to establish 100 smart elderly care facilities by the end of 2025, part of the city's commitment to revolutionizing its approach to eldercare, said an official of the Shanghai Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau.
During a recent interview with Radio Shanghai, Jiang Rui, director of the bureau, explained that these smart elderly care facilities integrate intelligent health and care products, along with information management systems, to provide operational services that are smarter and more efficient, covering aspects such as admission management, dining services, health care, and daily life assistance.
In September 2021, Shanghai released its 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for the development of elderly care services, outlining the goal of driving digital transformation in elderly care services and enhancing their quality. As part of this initiative, the plan set a target to establish 100 smart elderly care facilities by the end of 2025.
Shanghai has already completed the construction and verification of 36 smart elderly care facilities. By 2024, the city plans to build no fewer than 40 additional facilities, Jiang said.
In 2024, Shanghai will also introduce 4,000 new elderly care beds, revamp 3,000 beds for cognitive impairment care, complete aging-friendly renovations for 6,000 households, establish 30 community elderly dining halls, and provide smart water meter safety monitoring services for 8,000 households with elderly residents facing difficulties, added the bureau director.
