Shanghai, one of China's top destinations for inbound visitors, has introduced a series of events to greet the influx of tourists during the May Day holiday.

To enhance the visitor experience, the Shanghai Museum has prolonged its booking window from 7 days to 14 days in advance and introduced an English version of the booking system, streamlining the reservation process for international guests.

From April 30 to May 4, the Shanghai International Coffee Culture Festival will be held at the Xuhui West Bund Area in conjunction with the Shanghai International Flower Show and an array of cultural and sports events.

The Deqiu Shanghai International Illustration Art Festival will last until July and feature art exhibitions, competitions, and creative markets.

The recent arrival of the Spectrum of the Seas, Royal Caribbean's mega luxury cruise, brought to the city its largest group of inbound travelers so far this year, setting the stage for the May Day holiday.

Besides the modernity of Shanghai, the city also showcases its rich traditional heritage, such as the Longhua Temple Fair held from April 29 to May 5. This national intangible cultural heritage is expected to draw much attention from home and abroad.

To bolster the tourism sector, Shanghai is developing 26 major cultural and tourism projects with a total investment of 117.5 billion yuan ($16.23 billion) during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
