Shanghai unveiled three low-carbon-themed tour routes on May 15 to mark the 2024 National Low Carbon Day and promote energy-conservation lifestyles.
The three themed routes – the Riverside Leisure Tour, the Park Green Tour, and the Wonderland Vacation Tour – aim to guide residents and tourists to deeply experience Shanghai's unique natural landscapes and cultural charm in a low-carbon manner, according to the city's Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Center that unveiled the routes.
The Riverside Leisure Tour focuses on the riverside area along the Huangpu River as the main activity zone, encouraging people to unlock Shanghai's low-carbon landmarks through activities such as cycling and ferry rides.
The Park Green Tour centers around parks as the primary activity area, urging people to experience Shanghai's urban culture in typical renewal cases and find entrances to nature.
The Wonderland Vacation Tour highlights amusement parks, such as the Shanghai Disney Resort, as the main activity area, inviting people to explore biodiversity and experience low-carbon amusement facilities in the Shanghai International Tourism Resort.
The three themed routes are set within Shanghai's low-carbon practice areas, which the city began constructing in March 2011. As of the end of 2023, Shanghai built 13 low-carbon practice areas including the Hongqiao International Business District and the Shanghai Expo Park.
These low-carbon development practice areas have made significant progress in renewable energy, green buildings, low-carbon transportation, sponge resilience facilities, and other fields, resulting in several demonstration projects that form Shanghai's beautiful low-carbon landscape, according to the center.
Through the establishment of low-carbon tourism routes, which also consider the preferences of younger generations by incorporating city walks, cycling, and sustainable consumption in the design, the center said it aims to encourage young people to travel with low energy consumption and low pollution in a trendy manner.
