Shanghai port has processed over 220 international cruise ship arrivals since it resumed international cruise operations one year ago, welcoming approximately 700,000 inbound and outbound passengers, reported the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection of the People's Republic of China on May 25. Since January, the port announced that the number of inbound and outbound cruise ships has surpassed 130.
Shanghai border control authorities have reported frequent peaks in passenger flow at the Shanghai cruise port this year, with instances of multiple cruise ships docking simultaneously. On May 22, the Shanghai Border Inspection Station at the Wusongkou International Cruise Port processed a record-high total of 25,000 inbound and outbound passengers in a single day, setting a new daily record for the port.
To ensure timely visits, the border inspection has optimized checking-in procedures for inbound cruise ships. Since the resumption of international cruise operations, Shanghai has inspected 36 visiting cruise ships that carried approximately 40,000 foreign tourists.
On May 15, the National Immigration Administration implemented a visa-free policy for foreign tourist groups entering China by cruise at all coastal cruise ports in China. The policy has been well received by foreign tourists.
In 2024, the Shanghai cruise port plans to launch over 200 voyages, with routes spanning various countries and regions in Asia, such as Japan and South Korea. Shanghai border control authorities anticipate that the total volume of inbound and outbound passengers will reach 90 percent of the levels seen in 2019.
