Shanghai's exhibition economy continues to recover
Shanghai International Exhibition (Group) Co Ltd (SIEC) is preparing to host a remarkable lineup of six exhibitions concurrently at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre on June 5, announced Gu Chunting, the chairman of SIEC.
These forthcoming exhibitions, encompassing a collective exhibition area of 200,000 square meters, are poised to sustain the recovery momentum of Shanghai's exhibition economy for the remainder of 2024. The Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce has noted a positive trajectory in the city's exhibition sector since the beginning of the year. A series of large-scale exhibitions have also been planned for the upcoming months to uphold this growth trend.
According to statistics from the commission, from January to April, Shanghai showcased a total of 111 exhibitions, spanning an exhibition area of 4.6363 million square meters. Among these, 14 were large-scale exhibitions that each exceeded 100,000 square meters in size. Notably, the scale of these exhibitions has marginally surpassed the levels observed during the same period in 2019.
With over 40 years of development, SIEC has amassed a portfolio of more than 30 international brand exhibitions, and now boasts an annual exhibition area that exceeds 1.5 million square meters. The six exhibitions scheduled to commence on June 5 are the Shanghai International Carbon Neutrality Expo, Green and Smart Auto Shanghai 2024, Rail+Metro China 2024, Die & Mould China 2024, Heat Treating Shanghai 2024, and the 23rd Shanghai International Lubricants and Technology Exhibition. These exhibitions are set to surpass previous years in terms of exhibition area, the number of participating enterprises and brands, as well as attendees, according to SIEC.
Moreover, the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) is gearing up to host the 17th (2024) International Photovoltaic Power Generation and Smart Energy Conference and Exhibition in June, which is also when the WieTec will be held. All planned events are set to further enrich Shanghai's exhibition landscape and foster industry growth and innovation.
