Shanghai Airport Group revealed on June 27 that the feasibility study for the Terminal 3 project at Shanghai Pudong International Airport has been approved, clearing the path for construction to potentially commence by year's end.

Currently, the construction of an underground transportation hub in the airport's southern section is in full swing, paving the way for T3 construction to commence within the year, according to Shanghai Airport Group.

Both the underground transportation hub project and the T3 project are part of the airport's Phase IV expansion plan, which commenced on Jan 4, 2022. This plan is aimed at accelerating connectivity within the Yangtze River Delta region, enhancing the quality of travel services for passengers, and meeting the long-term development and operational needs of airline companies.

The design of terminal 3 maximizes the provision of efficient and high-quality services for passengers and airlines, ultimately catering to an estimated annual passenger throughput of 130 million upon completion, according to the Shanghai airport authority.
