The Anting Automated Vertical Car Warehouse, the largest intelligent whole-vehicle vertical warehouse in China, commenced operation on July 1 in Anting town of Shanghai's Jiading district.

Spanning approximately 15.5 hectares with a total built-up area of around 115,781 square meters, the facility comprises two automated vertical car warehouses, offering a total of 9,375 sq m of vehicle storage spaces. Of this total, 7,315 spots are in the vertical warehouse, while 2,060 are on the ground level.

The two automated vertical garages within the complex are constructed with six levels of reinforced concrete and steel, boasting a height of approximately 35 meters, which is the equivalent to a 12-story building. This innovative design significantly increases the land utilization efficiency by 12 times.

The vertical warehouse features an intelligent control and scheduling system that was developed by Anji Logistics, making it the largest and most advanced automated vertical car warehouse in China in terms of capacity and automation level, according to Zhao Zhijun, the project manager of the car warehouse.

Compared to traditional garages, the efficiency of vehicle storage and retrieval of this new project is enhanced by about 12 times, allowing for a reduction of approximately 50 percent in operational personnel, Zhao said.

The manager further explained that the central control system of the vertical warehouse is integrated within an app, through which a driver can initiate the car storage process. Once the process is initiated, the driver simply needs to drive the vehicle to the entry platform, where precise measurements of the vehicle's frame information, weight, dimensions, and more are conducted and stored. Subsequently, tasks such as vehicle collection, storage, inspection, and dispatch are efficiently managed by automated handling robots, ensuring the safe and orderly storage of vehicles.

Noteworthy is the warehouse's commitment to green practices and the use of eco-friendly materials, all of which align with green and low-carbon city initiatives. Through technological innovations, the warehouse's steel structure and equipment have been enhanced to meet the specific demands of new energy vehicles.

By integrating automation and intelligent technologies, the warehouse is able to process the entry and exit of 400 vehicles each hour, according to Zhao.

Yan Jianming, Party secretary of Anting town in Jiading district, said that the automated car warehouse, which is also SAIC Volkswagen's largest national vehicle logistics hub, will serve as a benchmark warehouse for intensive and functional vehicle logistics. It offers an innovative model for Anting to enhance its land utilization and reduce operational costs in the future.

Anting, SAIC Volkswagen's oldest and largest production base in the country, is also known as "the first automobile town of China". It is home to hundreds of companies, providing a complete industrial chain for the automobile sector.
