Shanghai has seen a growing trend of young people flocking to night schools, not merely to learn, but to rejuvenate themselves, explore their passions and expand their social circles.

In a move to bolster the burgeoning trend, authorities rolled out a guideline on the high-quality development and standardization of youth night schools, complemented by lists of corresponding supporting resources, on July 10.

Since the initiation of the youth night school project earlier this year, 87 such establishments have emerged in the city, offering 220 courses that have attracted over 5,000 students. These courses span a broad spectrum of topics, including arts and culture, sports and fitness, and professional development.

To ensure convenience and accessibility, the night schools are strategically located close to the student residences, including talent apartments and affordable rental houses.

Xing Yilin, a resident of the Vlinker Youth Community in Pujiang town, said, "The youth community I reside in is a hub for young professionals who eagerly seek opportunities for social engagement."

After the conclusion of the first term, the Shanghai Youth Activity Center introduced 14 summer night school classes on kickboxing, yoga, and etiquette. Registration for free classes reached full capacity within hours.

Various districts across Shanghai are actively devising plans to enrich the night school experience for young people. Their initiatives include providing affordable classes on modern dance and performing arts, and expanding the network of night schools to industrial parks and popular tourist destinations.
