Shanghai student secures gold at International Mathematical Olympiad
Shanghai High School student Wang Chunji, representing Team China, secured the prestigious gold medal at the 65th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which was held in the United Kingdom, according to the results announced by IMO on July 20.
This follows Wang's gold-medal win at the 2023 International Mathematical Olympiad. His consistent wins not only reflect his individual brilliance but also the dedication and excellence of the mathematics education system at Shanghai High School.
The Shanghai school has established a robust system for nurturing mathematically talented students in recent years. Since 2000, students from Shanghai High School have accumulated a total of 17 gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad. The school has seen students clinch IMO gold medals for nine consecutive years, maintaining a leading position among similar institutions both internationally and domestically.
Following approval by the International Mathematical Olympiad Committee, it has been confirmed that the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (2026) will be hosted in Shanghai. The China Mathematical Society has entrusted Shanghai High School with the responsibility of organizing the prestigious event.
