Shanghai hospital succeeds in cancer treatment with revolutionary fast recovery system
A patient in his 60s has been successfully cured of dual primary gastric and colorectal cancer following surgery at the Shanghai Fourth People's Hospital affiliated with Tongji University. The patient, identified as Wang, underwent laparoscopic minimally invasive radical tumor resection surgery and was discharged from the hospital within 24 hours, marking a significant achievement in cancer treatment and recovery.
The Shanghai Fourth People's Hospital has pioneered the use of translational medicine and the innovative FRAS (Fastest Recovery after Surgery) treatment approach, which focuses on accelerating the postoperative recovery process for patients. Wang's case represents the 80th successful treatment by the hospital’s FRAS Research Center, underscoring the effectiveness of this cutting-edge treatment method.
Wang's journey began in May when he was diagnosed with advanced-stage malignant tumors in his stomach and colon. Under the expert guidance of Tu Xiaohuang, director of the Gastrointestinal Surgery Department at the hospital, Wang underwent three rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy to prepare for the radical tumor resection surgery. The treatment proved successful, leading to visible tumor regression and making Wang a suitable candidate for the surgical procedure.
Following a five-hour minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, Wang immediately commenced rehabilitation training upon regaining consciousness. He swiftly resumed activities such as walking and consuming liquids, demonstrating remarkable progress in his recovery. With all vital indicators returning to normal, Wang was discharged from the hospital within 24 hours of the surgery, showcasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the FRAS treatment system.
Tu emphasized the transformative impact of the FRAS treatment system, highlighting its ability to minimize the stress responses of patients, expedite postoperative recovery, and significantly reduce hospital stays. Data revealed that patients treated with the FRAS system experienced an average postoperative hospital stay of only 28.75 hours, a substantial decrease in postoperative pain scores, a significant reduction in complication rates, and a notable decline in medical costs.
