The world's largest 62,000-DWT (deadweight tonnage) multipurpose heavy-lift vessel, the Boym, officially joined the ranks of China's largest multipurpose heavy-lift ship fleet on Aug 6, marking a significant achievement for Chipolbrok, a Chinese-Polish joint venture based in Shanghai.

This newly christened vessel adds to Chipolbrok's impressive fleet, solidifying the company's position as the world leader in multipurpose heavy-lift shipping. The company, the first Sino-foreign joint venture in China, has witnessed growing demand for large equipment exports from China, driving its decision to invest in massive ships.

The Boym embarked on its maiden voyage immediately, transporting wind turbines, transformers, and other Chinese exports from Jiangsu Taicang Port to Australian ports. This aligns with Chipolbrok's commitment to supporting renewable energy infrastructure projects and promoting global open cooperation.

Beyond its core shipping business, Chipolbrok has evolved into a comprehensive logistics and transport service provider, offering end-to-end solutions for its clients. This strategic move has resulted in a 38 percent year-on-year increase in cargo transportation for Belt and Road Initiative countries in the first half of 2024.

The Boym, measuring 199.9 meters long, 32.26 meters wide, and 19.3 meters deep, boasts four heavy-lift cranes with a combined lifting capacity of 300 tons.

The vessel's name honors Michał Piotr Boym, a 17th-century Polish missionary who played a crucial role in fostering cultural exchange between China and the West. His contributions laid the groundwork for the enduring friendship between the two nations.
