Buick LPGA Shanghai set to showcase elite women golfers
Shanghai is gearing up to host the Buick LPGA Shanghai tournament at the Qizhong Garden Golf Club in the city's Minhang district from Oct 10 to 13.
This professional golf event, certified by the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and the China LPGA Tour, will bring together a stellar lineup of elite female golfers from across the globe, including Chinese golfers Lin Xiyu and Yin Ruoning.
The Buick LPGA Shanghai, launched in Shanghai in 2018, has served as a pivotal platform for Chinese athletes to showcase their skills and compete against world-class counterparts, contributing significantly to the elevation of golf standards in China.
With 60 female players recently competing in the Paris Olympics, a remarkable 34 of them have previously participated in Buick LPGA tournaments, including notable golfers like Lydia Ko, Esther Henseleit, and Lin, who respectively clinched the gold, silver, and bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Shanghai's 21-year-old local athlete, Yin Ruoning, who also participated in the Paris Olympics, also finished in the top 10.
Commenting on the achievements by the China women's golf team at the Paris Olympics, Wei Qingfeng, secretary-general of the China Golf Association, said, "With their outstanding performances, China became the only country with two players in the top 10. Looking back on the development of women's golf in China, the Buick LPGA Championship has made significant contributions to the talent reserve and popularization of golf in China."
