The Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal in Shanghai sprang back to life on Sept 17 as it welcomed three cruise vessels following the departure of Typhoon Bebinca from the city.

According to Baoshan Customs officials, a total of 9,474 passengers crossed the border in the morning, disembarking from the cruise ships Adora Magic City, Spectrum of the Seas and Piano Land.

One passenger shared his experience of spending an extra two days at sea in order to steer clear of the typhoon's path, resulting in alterations to the original cruise schedules.

Despite the unforeseen circumstances, he said he was satisfied with the smooth and efficient entry process on arrival at the terminal.

Typhoon Bebinca made landfall in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area on Sept 16, prompting cruise ships Spectrum of the Seas and Piano Land to delay their berthing plans until Sept 17.

To facilitate the seamless entry of passengers disembarking from the three vessels, Baoshan Customs officials swiftly organized an emergency meeting to prepare for the border reopening.

Measures included clearing standing water from the rainstorm, restoring the power supply, conducting security inspections and promptly addressing any necessary repairs to ensure a secure and efficient entry process for all passengers.

Head of Baoshan Customs, Zhang Wei, acknowledged the challenges posed by the typhoon's impact – noting that passengers were eager to disembark after being confined on board during the storm.

Zhang highlighted issues such as food supply shortages and potential congestion resulting from the simultaneous berthing of multiple vessels at the terminal.

In response, Baoshan Customs intensified communications with the port authorities and cruise liners to facilitate a smooth entry experience for passengers.

Preemptive inspections of supplies destined for the ships were conducted and arrangements were made to swiftly redirect supply vehicles to prevent traffic congestion and ensure the timely delivery of essential provisions.
