Recap: Intl exchange activities of Shanghai leadership (Sept 23-29)
Sept 23 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Adidas Group CEO Bjoern Gulden. The Adidas chief was in town for the 36th International Business Leaders' Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shanghai.
Chen emphasized that Shanghai is accelerating its development as an international retailing hub and a globally renowned sports city. He encouraged the company to increase its investment in Shanghai and introduce more innovative products to the global market – fostering cultural and sports exchanges between China and Europe.
Gulden reaffirmed Adidas' commitment to long-term development in Shanghai, which is a key city in its global strategy. He expressed a desire to deepen cooperation in areas such as sports technology and green sustainability and to build platforms that bridge friendly exchanges between Europe and China, as well as between Germany and China.
Sept 25 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Khuon Sudary, president of Cambodia's National Assembly.
Chen highlighted Shanghai's willingness to strengthen trade ties and deepen cultural exchanges with Cambodia. He expressed his hope to further leverage the city's functions and advantages to strengthen the iron-clad friendship between China and Cambodia.
Sudary highlighted the city's vibrancy and development potential. She conveyed her eagerness to deepen practical cooperation and share experiences through the China-Cambodia Year of People-to-People Exchange.
Sept 23 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Robert B. Ford, chairman of the board and CEO of Abbott, and George R. Oliver, chairman of the board and CEO of Johnson Controls.
Both were in Shanghai to participate in the IBLAC, which took place in the city on Sept 22.
Gong encouraged IBLAC members to provide more insights, expand their businesses in Shanghai, promote sci-tech innovation and cooperation, support the city's green and low-carbon progress, and introduce more innovative products and services through the China International Import Expo.
Ford and Oliver noted that multinational corporations have enjoyed rapid development in recent decades in Shanghai. They are optimistic about the city's future and are willing to increase investment and closely cooperate with local partners to promote its sustainable economic prosperity.
Sept 26 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Niels B. Christiansen, CEO of Lego Group.
Gong expressed his eager anticipation for the completion of the Legoland Shanghai Resort and hopes to develop the area into a high-level tourist resort with enhanced transportation connectivity and comprehensive planning. He encouraged the Lego Group to deepen its cooperation with Shanghai and offer consumers high-quality products and services.
Christiansen highlighted the positive impact of Shanghai's favorable business environment and robust intellectual property protection on Lego's long-term development. He welcomed Chinese tourists to the Legoland Shanghai Resort next summer, the largest investment flagship park among global Lego parks.
Sept 26 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Kevin P. Clark, president and CEO of Aptiv.
Gong highlighted Shanghai's focus on its automotive industry and the efforts to establish a globally leading hub for intelligent new energy vehicles. He invited Aptiv to increase investment in Shanghai and deeply engage in the city's industrial upgrading.
Clark remarked that Aptiv has been investing in China for 30 years. He expressed a strong interest in collaborating with the Chinese market to introduce safer and smarter products, with the goal of achieving mutual growth.
