Shanghai airports handle record passenger traffic during National Day holiday
Shanghai's two major airports, Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport, experienced record-breaking passenger traffic during the recent National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7, according to the Shanghai Airport Authority.
The airports handled a total of 16,000 flights, an 8.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Pudong airport hosted 11,000 flights, while Hongqiao airport managed 5,000.
Passenger traffic reached 2.62 million, a 17.4 percent year-on-year increase, with a daily average of 375,000 passengers. The busiest day was Oct 1, witnessing a peak of 382,000 passengers.
To accommodate the holiday rush, both airports implemented various measures to optimize their services. These included the recent launch of one-stop comprehensive service centers for international travelers at Pudong's T1 and Hongqiao's T1 terminals, joining the existing center at Pudong's T2.
Additionally, both airports optimized ground transportation, improved parking guidance, deployed additional staff for vehicle guidance, and strengthened cooperation with railway, subway, bus, and taxi companies to ensure smooth passenger flow.
