Recap: Intl exchange activities of Shanghai leadership (Nov 4-10)
Nov 4 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, who was in Shanghai to attend the 7th China International Import Expo.
Chen expressed Shanghai's willingness to work with Serbia, through the CIIE, to expand bilateral economic and trade exchanges and deepen collaboration in areas such as technology, education, culture and sports.
Vucevic noted that the iron-clad friendship between Serbia and China serves as a solid foundation for the building of a China-Serbia community, with a shared future in the new era. He conveyed his eagerness to learn more from Shanghai's experiences, as well as China more widely, and to promote more products of Serbian specialty at the CIIE.
Nov 4 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, who was in Shanghai for the 7th CIIE.
Chen expressed optimism that friendship cities Shanghai and Tashkent could further strengthen economic and trade exchanges, and enhance cooperation in infrastructure construction, jointly creating a better business environment for Chinese and Uzbek companies.
Aripov expressed his anticipation for practical cooperation in trade, investment, industrial development, technological innovation, and talent development. He encouraged more Chinese companies to invest in Uzbekistan, offering favorable conditions for their operations.
Nov 6 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Oliver Blume, chairman of the board of management of Volkswagen AG.
Chen expressed his appreciation for Volkswagen Group's participation in the CIIE for seven consecutive years. He reaffirmed Shanghai's commitment to establishing regulatory and service systems tailored to the development of key industries, aiming for a brighter future for global companies in Shanghai.
Blume emphasized the significance of Shanghai in Volkswagen's global growth strategy. He expressed the aspiration to collaborate with Chinese partners to develop more new technologies and products for the global market.
Nov 7 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Peter J. Arduini, president and CEO of GE HealthCare and chair of the AdvaMed board of directors, along with representatives from member companies of the association.
Chen invited the association to increase investment in Shanghai, and encouraged joint research with local medical institutions. He highlighted Shanghai's unwavering commitment to creating a long-term, stable, and predictable development environment for businesses.
Arduini and representatives expressed AdvaMed's dedication to deepening its presence in Shanghai, and to working with Chinese partners to better serve patients, noting the 10th anniversary of AdvaMed's entry into China.
Nov 4 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Mayor Wayne Brown of Auckland in New Zealand.
Gong underscored the fruitful exchanges between Shanghai and Auckland since the establishment of friendly relations in 2012. He welcomed more Auckland companies to be present at the CIIE, and to increase investment in the fields of digital economy, green initiatives, and creative industries.
During the meeting, Brown played the banjo and improvised a traditional Maori song with the delegation. He spoke highly of Shanghai's innovations and expressed his strong desire to foster cooperation with the city in economy, trade, ports, and urban development.
Nov 5 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Denisa Sakova, deputy prime minister and minister of economy of the Slovak Republic.
Gong expressed a keen interest in enhancing cooperation in fields such as the economy, new energy vehicles, green initiatives, and infrastructure construction. He voiced his support to bolster cultural exchanges through China's 15-day visa-free entry policy to Slovak citizens.
Sakova observed that this was Slovakia's debut at the National Exhibition of the CIIE, and she conveyed her optimism about fostering collaboration with Shanghai in the fields of renewable energy and robotics.
Nov 5 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Sabrina Soussan, chairwoman and CEO of Suez Group.
Gong encouraged Suez Group to leverage its technological expertise, deepen cooperation with local enterprises, and participate in Shanghai's ecological and environmental governance, contributing to the building of a beautiful Shanghai.
Soussan remarked that Shanghai is her favorite city in China, expressing deep admiration for its beautiful cityscape and vibrant energy. She expressed Suez's dedication to increasing investment and seeking opportunities for green development in the city.
Nov 6 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Roy Jakobs, CEO of Royal Philips.
Gong highlighted that biomedicines is one of the three pioneering industries that Shanghai is prioritizing for development. He welcomed Philips to seize market and policy opportunities and called for it to take stronger steps in industrial innovation.
Jakobs stressed the importance of Shanghai's thriving medical ecosystem, its commitment to innovation, and its ability to attract top talent. He expressed Philips's dedication to strengthening their presence in the city to further advance global healthcare initiatives.
Nov 7 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrai Oyun-Erdene.
Gong invited more Mongolian companies to participate in the CIIE, deepen their business layout in Shanghai, and to foster exchanges and cooperation in the fields of mineral resources, energy, green initiatives, as well as infrastructure.
Oyun-Erdene praised Shanghai's dynamic atmosphere. He expressed his hope to strengthen collaboration with the city, establish an economic and trade cooperation platform, and foster friendship between Ulaanbaatar and Shanghai.
Nov 7 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with William M. "Bill" Brown, CEO of 3M.
Gong expressed the hope that 3M could increase investment in Shanghai, deepen cooperation with local companies, universities, and research institutions, and help establish Shanghai as an international science and technology innovation center.
Brown expressed his company's aspiration to focus on market needs, develop solutions tailored to Chinese customer demands, and introduce more innovative products, noting the 40th anniversary of 3M's entry into the Chinese market.
Nov 10 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
Gong highlighted the various opportunities for cooperation arising from the China-Laos Railway. He encouraged Shanghai companies to invest in Laos, particularly in the fields of advanced manufacturing, digital economy, and infrastructure construction.
Sonexay invited Shanghai companies to invest in Laos and introduce Laotian products to Chinese consumers. He expressed his strong interest in enhancing cooperation with Shanghai across various sectors, including finance, economics, urban development, and historical preservation.
