China is to introduce a visa-free entry trial for ordinary passport holders from Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, Latvia, and Japan.

From Nov 30, 2024 to the end of 2025, ordinary passport holders from the nine countries will be able to enter China without a visa — for business, tourism, family visits, exchange visits, or transit — provided their stay does not exceed 30 days.

In addition to adding the nine countries to its visa-exemption list, China has decided to further optimize the visa-free policy, including exchanges and visit purposes into the visa-free entry scope, and extending the period of visa-free stays from 15 to 30 days.

Since the end of last year, China has implemented visa exemption policies for 38 countries  and now has comprehensive mutual visa exemption policies with 25 countries.
