Multiple trade fairs wrap up Shanghai's exhibition season

The 11th Shanghai International Jewelry Fair took place from Dec 27 to 30 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center, attracting about 400 exhibitors from around the globe.
Even though December is typically a quieter period for exhibitions, Shanghai's exhibition industry remained bustling as the year 2024 came to a close.
One premier show, Automechanika Shanghai, brought together 6,763 exhibitors from 40 countries and regions worldwide from Dec 2 to 5, marking a 20 percent increase compared with last year and setting records for both exhibitor number and event scale.
In December, about 18 exhibitions were held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, including the China Data Center Expo. The Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center hosted four exhibitions during this period.
Shanghai hosted a total of 602 exhibitions from January to October 2024, with an exhibition area reaching 15.98 million square meters, marking a historic high, according to the Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Industries Association.
Event holder NurnbergMesse China organized six exhibitions in Shanghai in 2024, including the Craft Beer China Exhibition and Conference and Euroguss China, said Guo Yiqian, managing director of the company.
He emphasized that more international brands hoped to directly engage with local consumers and business partners in Shanghai.
The exhibition situation in December also served as a barometer for observing industry development trends in 2025.
Li Qiaozhi, deputy general manager of Chongqing Guogui Racing Technology Co Ltd, said the company received many new orders at Automechanika Shanghai. Li estimated a 20 percent revenue increase for 2024 and projected a 30 percent increase for 2025.
Shanghai has announced a set of measures to enhance the city's exhibition economy and its impact on various sectors with financial incentives.
Effective from Aug 1, 2024, to Dec 31, 2025, these measures aim to attract new exhibitions, support large-scale events, and promote cross-industry collaboration.
