Recap: Intl exchange activities of Shanghai leadership (Jan 6-12)

Jan 9 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with David Loosley, secretary general and CEO of the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO).

Gong expressed his hope that Shanghai would work together with BIMCO to develop the high-end shipping service industry. He encouraged BIMCO to promote more functional institutions and enterprises to expand their presence in the city.

BIMCO opened its Shanghai Center office in 2013. Loosley expressed BIMCO's desire to deepen cooperation with Shanghai, provide commercial shipping training for local personnel, and explore the use of green fuels for ships.

Jan 10 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Tobias Meyer, CEO of DHL Group.

Gong said that Shanghai would accelerate its development into a national logistics hub and an international hub for postal express services by leveraging information technology. He welcomed the group to increase investment in the city and support the international growth of Chinese enterprises.

Meyer expressed the group's commitment to expanding its business in Shanghai and

contributing to its development into an international shipping center. He also shared the group's plans to help Shanghai become a global logistics hub.

Jan 12 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves.

Gong expressed his anticipation for stronger financial market connectivity between Shanghai and the United Kingdom. He called for increased scientific research exchanges and enhanced innovation cooperation in the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and other fields for the benefit of both nations.

Reeves looks forward to expanding cooperation in more areas, highlighting Shanghai's crucial role in UK-China cooperation, with two-thirds of British companies choosing to base their Chinese headquarters in the city.
