Shanghai has recently completed certification for a new set of "Shanghai Sports" brand events, including five upgraded events and seven new ones.

The certification framework, designed to bolster event management innovation, quality, and overall impact, aims to position Shanghai as a more competitive destination for hosting global sports events.

Events are evaluated based on criteria such as influence, organizer qualifications, scale, financial backing, and their contribution to Shanghai's city image, leading to their classification into three distinct categories: Premium, Hallmark, and Developing.

Among the notable advancements, the Shanghai Longines Global Champions Tour has been promoted from a Hallmark event to a Premium event. Additionally, four other events — the Head of Shanghai River Regatta, Shanghai Future Star Cup, Buick LPGA Shanghai, and the Shanghai Cup Chess Masters — have been promoted to the Hallmark category, recognizing their growing stature and impact within the sports community.

In a bid to showcase more professional and distinctive high-quality events, the certification system has welcomed seven new additions to its roster — the MXGP Motocross World Championship, FISE World Series, Shanghai Sailing Open, Shanghai Future Star Basketball Championship, Tour of Shanghai, Shanghai Volleyball Future Star Championship, and the Shanghai Tower Vertical Marathon.
