Shanghai offers flexible transit choices for cruise guests
As part of its efforts to become a global cruise tourism hub, Shanghai is introducing an innovative travel model that allows international cruise passengers to explore the city and continue their journeys with other transport options.
The AIDAstella made its first-ever stop in China at the Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal in Shanghai's Baoshan district on March 16. Most of the 2,200 international travelers from Germany, Austria, and Poland disembarked for independent trips.
Three days later, the cruise will depart with a new group of over 2,200 travelers who have already completed their China tours.
For many, it's their first time in China. "This is my first time in Shanghai," said Hartwig Hermann, a German traveler, adding that he planned to visit Yuyuan Garden and the Bund before heading to Zhujiajiao – an ancient town in Shanghai – and Suzhou in Jiangsu province for a two-day excursion.
By providing comprehensive services, the city offers international tourists a smooth and flexible travel experience.
To ensure smooth immigration for AIDAstella passengers, Baoshan Customs has introduced three fast-track channels and provided 24/7 customs support during the ship's stay.
Additionally, customs officers proficient in foreign languages were stationed at key service points, including immigration processing, health declarations, and tax refunds.
