Recap: Intl exchange activities of Shanghai leadership (April 7-13)

April 9 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Jussi Halla-aho, speaker of the Finnish Parliament.

Chen expressed optimism about expanding cooperation with Finland in areas such as education, tourism, and design while strengthening friendship city ties. He conveyed his desire to create additional platforms for youth interaction.

Halla-aho highlighted the fruitful outcomes of the friendship city relationship between Shanghai and Espoo, Finland. He called for deeper collaboration in trade and investment, circular economy, urban governance, culture, and tourism.

April 9 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Hugh Jones, CEO of London-headquartered expo organizer RX and president of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry.

Gong said that he hopes RX would help attract high-end international resources to Shanghai's key industries. He encouraged the group to align its exhibitions with major consumption initiatives like the "First in Shanghai" initiative.

Jones praised Shanghai as a premier destination for the exhibition industry. He expressed his desire to deepen cooperation, explore new business opportunities, and deliver more safe, efficient, and engaging exhibitions in the city.

April 10 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with New Zealand Ambassador to China Jonathan Austin.

Gong said that over the past 30 years, Shanghai had established a friendship city relationship with Dunedin and friendly exchange ties with Auckland. Shanghai Port and the Port of Auckland have formed a friendship port partnership.

He signaled his interest in reinforcing these ties to foster greater collaboration and welcomed more New Zealand enterprises to participate in the China International Import Expo and invest in Shanghai.

Austin affirmed Shanghai's central role in New Zealand-China business relations. He conveyed optimism about fostering cooperation in trade, academic research, culture, and tourism.
