Medical cooperation between China and France received a boost at the third China-France MT & MP Forum, which concluded in Shanghai on April 12.

The two-day event centered on translational medicine and precision diagnostics. Participants at the forum agreed to enhance collaboration across medical education, scientific research, and clinical practice.

Chen Zhu, chairman of the conference, noted the increasing complexity of medicine due to technological advancements and the merging of various disciplines. He voiced hope that the forum and follow-up exchanges would strengthen existing collaborations and lead to the launch of international multi-center projects as well as the application of new technologies and concepts, adding that Sino-French cooperation has the potential to contribute to global health improvements.

Fan Xianqun, president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, highlighted the long history of medical cooperation between the university and France.

The school is actively promoting an interdisciplinary development strategy, known as "medicine plus X", to foster innovative talent and accelerate the translation of research findings, according to Fan.

The opening ceremony featured several key events, including the appointment of a French vice president to the Sino-France Joint Medical School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Scholarships from the French National Academy of Medicine for 2025 were also awarded, along with the inaugural "bioMérieux-Guangci" Sino-France Medical Cooperation and Exchange Program awards, which seek to empower high-quality development in Sino-French medical education and scientific research.

During the keynote speech session, Chen shared China's evidence-based experience in the prevention and control of chronic non-communicable diseases. Wang Chen, president of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, presented a keynote speech on the topic of "greater health: category and definition".

The forum was organized by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the French National Academy of Medicine, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
