Shanghai hospital launches 3D microscope for eye surgery
Shanghai Bright Eye Hospital, an affiliate of Shanghai University, announced the establishment of a new ophthalmic surgery center equipped with a 3D navigation digital microscope on May 12.
The center is powered by the Zeiss ARTEVO 800, which was officially put into use on the same day.
This state-of-the-art microscope is the world's first ophthalmic surgical microscope to combine digital technology with optical systems for surgical navigation.
The Zeiss ARTEVO 800 made its official debut in China during the 5th China International Import Expo in 2022.
According to Xiao Jianye, president of Shanghai Bright Eye Hospital, the introduction of the Zeiss ARTEVO 800 marks a significant milestone in the hospital's quest to improve precision and transition toward intelligent ophthalmic surgery.
This cutting-edge technology is expected to revolutionize eye surgery practices and significantly enhance the hospital’s capabilities in diagnosis and treatment.
As the world's first digital-optical hybrid microscope for ophthalmic surgical navigation, the Zeiss ARTEVO 800 boasts a plethora of advanced features.
Its 3D large-screen surgical mode liberates surgeons from the constraints of traditional eyepiece-based microscopes, allowing procedures to be performed using a high-definition, oversized display.
The system delivers ultra-high resolution with stereoscopic depth, providing a broader and clearer surgical field.
This enhances precision, improves spatial awareness, and increases overall surgical safety.
In addition, the microscope's real-time navigation capabilities further improve surgical accuracy.
Another key benefit of the Zeiss ARTEVO 800 is its ability to significantly reduce the intensity of surgical lighting, improving patient comfort during procedures.
This feature is particularly beneficial for patients undergoing IOL (intraocular lens) surgeries, who are often sensitive to the bright lights typically used in conventional operations.
