World's largest ro-ro ship embarks on maiden voyage to Europe
The world's largest roll-on/roll-off ship, with a capacity of 9,500 vehicles, set sail for Europe on its maiden voyage on May 15.
Built and operated by SAIC Motor's Anji Logistics, the ship was officially named Anji Ansheng on the same day.
This intelligent, low-carbon mega carrier benefited from cutting-edge global technologies in its design and construction.
Measuring 228 meters in length and 37.8 meters in width, Anji Ansheng features a layout optimized for SAIC Motor's flagship export models.
On its maiden voyage, the vessel carried nearly 5,000 vehicles from SAIC Motor, including the MG3, MG HS, and MG Cybertser, along with additional vehicles from other Chinese automakers, such as Chery, BYD, Chang'an, and Great Wall Motors.
With the addition of Anji Ansheng, Anji Logistics now operates a fleet of 35 vessels, comprising 11 river ships, nine coastal ships for domestic trade, and 15 ocean-going vessels for international routes.
By 2026, Anji Logistics, one of the world's largest automotive logistics companies, plans to expand its international fleet to 22 vessels.
These ships will serve major export markets such as Western Europe, the Mediterranean, Mexico, South America, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East.
The new vessel boosts the company's annual transport capacity by 30,000 vehicles.
By the end of 2024, SAIC Motor had delivered over 5.5 million vehicles overseas, the most among China's automakers.
The company has led China's auto exports for the past eight years straight, with annual overseas sales surpassing 1 million units for three years in a row.
Sales in developed European countries accounted for 25 percent of that total.
