Baoshan district leading the way in green, low-carbon industry
Baoshan district in Shanghai has made significant strides in six key areas — green manufacturing, green energy, green services, green buildings, green transportation, and the circular economy. The size of its green and low-carbon industry exceeded 100 billion yuan ($13.8 billion) in 2024.
The district has established a closed-loop industrial ecosystem, combining a carbon-neutral industrial park, a green, low-carbon supply chain public service platform, supportive policies for the development of green low-carbon industries, database technology support, and a green carbon fund.
In April 2024, the Carbon Neutrality 100 (CN100) green low-carbon supply chain alliance launched an initiative in Baoshan, attracting influential enterprises such as China Baowu Steel Group Corporation, CRRC, COMAC, COSCO Shipping, and BASF. They cover crucial industries such as steel, aviation, logistics, construction, and energy, forming a cross-sector collaborative "green industry matrix".
Baoshan is set to become the permanent venue for the annual meeting of the CN100 Green Low-carbon Supply Chain Alliance, launch ceremonies, training sessions, and other significant events, promoting the early adoption of green products, technological applications, standards, and related research results in Baoshan.
Leveraging the resources of CN100 leading enterprises, Baoshan district has built a supply-demand matchmaking platform for the supply chain to accelerate the formation of a green, low-carbon industrial cluster, providing a "Baoshan model" for the transformation of green supply chains nationwide.
