Shanghai students showcased their creativity and problem-solving abilities on the global stage by clinching three championships at the 46th Odyssey of the Mind World Finals, according to the Shanghai China Odyssey of the Mind Association.

The competition, which was held at Michigan State University in the United States and concluded on May 24, saw over 800 teams from 12 countries and regions vying for top honors, with 24 teams representing China.

It featured a diverse range of challenges designed to test participants’ ingenuity and teamwork.

Teams were tasked with tackling long-term problems in the OM-Mazing Race, Mech-Animal Sidekick, Save Me Structure, and AstronOMical Odyssey, each presenting unique and open-ended scenarios that required innovative solutions.

In addition to the long-term challenges, participants also faced spontaneous questions designed to test their quick thinking and ability to collaborate effectively within their divisions and categories.

After several rounds of intense competition, Shanghai teams emerged triumphant in multiple categories.

The team from Shanghai Daning International Elementary School claimed the top spot in the OM-Mazing Race division for primary schools.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai Pudong Youth Performance Club excelled in the middle school category, securing victory and the Ranatra Fusca Award.

The team from Shanghai Jiao Tong University impressed the judges with their solution to the Mech-Animal Sidekick challenge, earning first prize in the university category.

Several other schools from Shanghai received accolades during the competition.

Among them, four teams hailing from Shanghai’s Jing’an district showcased their remarkable performances.

The district is also set to host the national qualifying race for the 2026 world competition.
