The North Bund area, one of Shanghai's emerging landmarks, has established an initiative calling for proposals for the neighborhood's public art plans by the end of Aug 31.

The initiative aims to promote the cultural identity, visibility, and urban image of the North Bund, and to enhance the communication and collaboration between public art and the city's cultural industry.

As a new platform for Shanghai's image, the initiative also welcomes global artists to showcase their ideas and inspirations in urban designs.

Under the theme of "Waterfront Neighborhood", the initiative recommends artists and design teams to dig deep into the historical and modern elements of the North Bund for its unique cultural values, presenting their works at eight iconic areas near the Grand Halls, the Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal, and the riverside area.

As required by the committee, proposed artworks may be created in diverse forms including but not limited to sculpture, installation, and urban furniture.

After the conclusion of the proposal review, selected outstanding works will be exhibited publicly, with certificates presented to their designers.
