Shanghai launches inspection, testing and certification company
Shanghai Inspection, Testing and Certification Co Ltd (SITIC) was established on July 9, with Mayor Gong Zheng unveiling the plaque at the inauguration ceremony.
The launch marks a major step in the city's efforts to play a leading role in shaping international standards and regulatory frameworks.
With a registered capital of 5 billion yuan (about $696.5 million), SITIC operates under the direct supervision of the Shanghai State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. The company is set to provide comprehensive services across testing and inspection, certification and accreditation, metrology and calibration, and standardization.
Its scope spans nine strategic and emerging industries: transportation, high-end equipment, electronic information, advanced materials, life sciences and healthcare, integrated circuits, new energy, artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge sectors.
At the ceremony, SITIC signed strategic cooperation agreements with government agencies, industry associations, universities, research institutes and leading companies, underscoring its ambition to serve as a central platform in China's quality infrastructure ecosystem.
As part of its formation, four institutions transitioned from public entities to corporate subsidiaries under SITIC: the Shanghai Institute of Measurement and Testing Technology (SIMT), Shanghai Institute of Special Equipment Inspection and Technical Research (SSEI), Shanghai Institute of Quality Inspection and Technical Research (SQI), and Shanghai Academy of Public Measurement (APM).
