Travel light in summer: Metro upgrades luggage storage services
This summer, Shanghai Metro has expanded and upgraded its self-service luggage storage services to enhance travel convenience for both residents and international visitors.
Following the expansion, lockers are now available at 214 locations across 144 stations on 18 metro lines, with a total of 3,900 lockers in service. This wider coverage allows more passengers to travel light while exploring the city.
The lockers are located in major commercial areas like East Nanjing Road and Xujiahui, popular tourist destinations such as Shanghai Disneyland and Yuyuan Garden, as well as key transport hubs including Shanghai Railway Station and Hongqiao Railway Station.
Some stations, including Xujiahui and Lujiazui, are piloting locker installations in non-paid areas past security checks, which not only ensures item safety but also offers convenience for passengers making last-minute travel plan changes.
To improve the service for overseas visitors, the locker interface supports multiple languages, including English, Japanese, and Korean, with more languages planned. Payment methods have also been expanded to accommodate international users.
The self-service storage can be easily accessed by scanning QR codes using WeChat or Alipay. Simply follow the on-screen instructions for a quick and simple storage process. Passengers can also check real-time locker availability through mini-programs.
