Shanghai Customs has supervised a total of 78,000 tons of goods, valued at 1.72 billion yuan ($238.5 million), imported and exported via the Chancay-Shanghai maritime route.

Driven by this route, Shanghai's import and export trade value with Peru surged by 34.9 percent in the first half of this year.

With the official launch of operations at the Port of Chancay, the maritime shipping time from Peru to China has been cut to around 23 days, resulting in over 20 percent savings in logistics costs.

An increasing number of fresh fruits, such as avocados, mangoes, and blueberries, are now transported directly from Peru to China via this route.

Upon arrival, customs officers conduct inspections using both traditional methods, such as sugar content testing, and innovative approaches, including intelligent assessment of cold treatment effects, ensuring swift clearance and delivery to domestic consumers.

Located on the west coast of South America, this newly developed deep-water port in Chancay is positioned to become a major shipping hub linking Asia and South America.

As a key component of the Belt and Road Initiative, the port is expected to significantly enhance bilateral trade, especially in containerized exports, between the two continents.
