The giant panda Qianjin at Shanghai Wild Animal Park gave birth to a pair of twins on Aug 22, with the female cub weighing 200 grams and the male 160 grams at birth.

The adorable cubs are the park’s second opposite-sex panda twins in its 30-year history and the first second-generation giant pandas born in Shanghai — marking a milestone in the city's wildlife conservation efforts.

From conception and delivery to cub rearing, the park has received guidance and technical support from the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda.

A dedicated team has also been assembled to optimize living environment, prepare specialized food, sooth emotions, and monitor health data, providing Qianjin with a meticulous care around the clock.

Both newborns are thriving, reaching 499.8 grams and 394.5 grams respectively as of Sept 4. Their signature black markings around the eyes, ears, shoulders, and limbs are beginning to emerge, contrasting with the soft white fur on their pink bodies.

As the twins turn one month old on Sept 22, the park will launch a series of public activities, including soliciting names for them.
