The Secretariat of the Global South Think Tanks Alliance was officially launched on Dec 4 during the third Global South Think Tanks Dialogue in Shanghai. The new secretariat will be based at Fudan University.

Proposed at the "BRICS Plus" leaders' dialogue in Kazan, Russia, last October, the Global South Think Tanks Alliance aims to enhance cooperation among the countries of the Global South as they promote a more equal multi-polar world and more inclusive global governance.

Run by Fudan University's School of International Relations and Public Affairs, the secretariat will facilitate exchanges and cooperation among Chinese and international member institutions within the alliance framework.

It will provide resource support for knowledge sharing, personnel interactions and joint research among members, while working to expand the Global South think tank cooperation network.

Utilizing the university's expertise in artificial intelligence, the secretariat will also promote the integration of AI with the development needs of the Global South, as well as new models of cooperation through technological innovation.

Fudan University President Jin Li said at the launch ceremony that his institution has been cultivating students dedicated to Global South studies and has made great progress in related research.

Jin added that the university will work closely with alliance members to advance the modernization of Global South nations and build a more equitable and just international order.
