The main link connecting the S5 Shanghai-Jiading Expressway and Minhang Elevated Road is scheduled for completion by the end of this month, clearing the way for traffic to begin using the route.

Once open, the connection will link two major arteries directly, significantly improving traffic flow in northwestern Shanghai.

The project is designed to alleviate congestion in the Hongqiao International Central Business District and surrounding downtown areas, optimize the regional road network, and enable faster travel between Jiading New City and the Hongqiao CBD.

Located in Nanxiang town of Jiading district, the one-kilometer elevated link runs from the Minhang Elevated Road in the west to the S5 Shanghai-Jiading Expressway in the east.

It features Y-shaped interchanges at both ends to connect with the two expressways, as well as two pairs of parallel ramps near Chenxiang Road to provide entry and exit access.

The main elevated road is a two-way, six-lane route, supported by auxiliary ground roads with four to six lanes. With the main structure nearing completion, the project remains on track to be fully operational by the end of this year.
