Shanghai received 8.28 million inbound visitors in the first 11 months of 2025, a year-on-year increase of 38.84 percent. The total for the full year is expected to surpass the 2019 peak, according to the statistics from the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism.

This growth indicates that the city's inbound tourism market has returned to a phase of rapid expansion.

Shanghai offers a comprehensive tourism experience covering food, accommodation, and transportation.

In terms of culinary culture, visitors can savor both Shanghai's local cuisine and a wide array of international specialties, from Korean barbecue and Italian pizza to French desserts.

Scattered throughout the city, these diverse flavors offer every tourist a satisfying and memorable dining experience.

Accommodation options range from luxury star-rated hotels and themed homestays to convenient chain apartments, catering to different budgets and preferences.

To better serve international guests, numerous hotels are equipped with iFlytek translators and AI-enabled smartphones to help reduce language barriers.

As a major gateway to China, Shanghai is served by two international airports, Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport, both offering extensive global flight networks.

Streamlined immigration procedures and well-equipped airport facilities ensure a smooth arrival process.

The city's comprehensive transportation system, complemented by multilingual signage, enables even first-time visitors to navigate with ease.

Distinctive travel options, such as the maglev train and double-decker sightseeing buses, further enhance the city's tourism appeal.

Cultural enrichment also plays a key role. Shanghai's cultural calendar remains vibrant year-round, offering performances and events that provide visitors with spiritual enrichments and a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
