The Louis draws global shoppers
Since its opening, The Louis, Louis Vuitton's new landmark space in Shanghai, has attracted visitors from around the world and boosted consumption in the surrounding Jing'an district.
During the three-day New Year's holiday, tax-free sales in the district rose 110 percent year-over-year. Sales generated through the instant tax refund service increased 9-fold over the same period.
"More and more international consumers are coming to China to buy imported goods, which was unimaginable in the past," said Andrew Wu, group president of LVMH Greater China.
Jing'an, one of the core areas supporting Shanghai's role as an international consumption center, has long been a preferred destination for global shoppers.
The opening of The Louis has further strengthened that appeal, driving sustained customer traffic to HKRI Taikoo Hui, the shopping complex where it is located.
In the second half of last year, instant tax refund transactions at the complex rose by about 700 percent compared with the first half.
Jing'an has also established a highly efficient tax-free shopping network. The district is now home to more than 800 tax-refund stores, including over 100 merchants offering instant tax refund services.
