Shanghai to welcome Scottish art treasures in 2027
The World Expo Museum in Shanghai will partner with the National Galleries of Scotland and Art Exhibitions China to present a special European art exhibition in Shanghai in the summer of 2027.
The partnership, announced on Jan 30 during UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to Shanghai, underscores the continuing cultural exchange between China and the UK.
Established in 1850, the National Galleries of Scotland boasts a collection spanning from the Renaissance to contemporary art, highlighting both Scottish and European masterpieces.
Anne Lyden, director-general of the National Galleries of Scotland, said she hopes the core belief that art is for everyone can be spread around the world and bring people closer to art.
The exhibition will showcase more than 60 works from the extensive collection.
Visitors can expect a journey through works by artists including Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Henri Matisse and Roy Lichtenstein.
Tan Ping, director of Art Exhibitions China, said the exhibition will mark the National Galleries of Scotland's first touring exhibition in China and help deepen cultural exchange.
