Shanghai Port's container throughput reached 5.06 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in the first month of 2026, setting a new monthly record.

As the world's largest single automated terminal, Yangshan Phase IV of Shanghai Port saw its container throughput rise by 6.5 percent in January, contributing to the port's enhanced status as the world's busiest.

In exploring new business models, Shanghai Port made a breakthrough in cross-border e-commerce services, exporting more than 5,130 TEUs in January.

The port's sea-rail transport volume exceeded 100,000 TEUs for the first time, up more than 22 percent from a year earlier. Daily volume averaged over 3,400 TEUs, with more than 1,200 train trips completed during the month.

Beyond volume growth, service frequency has increased. Trains from Jinhua in Zhejiang province and Jiangdu in Jiangsu province now operate more frequently, and a new sea-rail service was launched at Taizhou West Station.

These developments help inland exporters cut logistics costs and support greener, low-carbon operations.
