Shanghai's 180-meter 'sky swing' draws thrill seekers
Shanghai's only high-rise swing, perched atop a 180-meter tower, has been drawing visitors eager to seek an adrenaline rush, since opening in February.
The sky swing is located on the rooftop of the Shanghai Long Beach Tower within the Shanghai International Cruise Tourism Resort in Baoshan district.
It offers visitors the thrill of a high-altitude ride with panoramic views of the waterfront of the Yangtze River and the surrounding cityscape.
Since its launch, more than 300 visitors have tried the swing, said Zhou Liming, general manager of indoor adventure park Lecamp, which operates the sky swing.
On the rooftop, thrill seekers can also venture onto a narrow external walkway more than 180 meters above the ground, stepping beyond the guardrails and secured solely by safety harnesses as they traverse the tower's edge.
Attractions inside the tower include a 100-meter indoor spiral slide with a vertical drop of about 40 meters, bungee-style experiences, and a cafe operating between the 150-meter and 180-meter floors.
According to the developer of the Long Beach renovation project, Ruitai Development Co Ltd of Shanghai International Port Group, the designers of the project decided to transform a purely utilitarian chimney into a cultural and tourist attraction by incorporating thrilling entertainment facilities.
The Long Beach Tower has evolved into a local landmark. Currently, most visitors to the adventure park come from Baoshan and neighboring districts, and the operator of the project expects to draw more tourists from outside the region as surrounding commercial and transport facilities continue to improve.
The Long Beach area already features a newly built concert hall, a spherical cinema, and approximately 180,000 square meters of commercial space.
